About Us

For 45 years, at a crucial time of crisis and uncertainty on Planet Earth, the Institute for the Advancement of Service served as a globally aware service organization whose ultimate destiny during the Piscean-Aquarian transition was to be a wayshower for individuals and groups called to bring into manifestation a soul-inspired, holographic model of leadership and group life.

Founded in 1980 as an educational and nonsectarian spiritual organization, the Institute offered onsite and online, facult-led courses in the dynamic relationship between soul development, service, leadership, and group life, providing support and practices to build and sustain humanity’s inner strength during this challenging time in our world.

On March 1, 2025, the Institute closed its physical doors, no longer offering onsite or faculty-led programs and ceasing its operations as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. It continues to live on in a purely virtual space - this self-study website. We are also continuing our Bookgiving Project - to distribute the four books written by Susan Trout that encapsulate the teachings and practices of the Institute free of charge - as long as books remain available. (See our FREE BOOKS page to read more about this program and request books.)

 The Institute’s continuing mission in the form of Susan's books and this website is:

  • to support individuals, families, groups, and organizations in need of psychological-spiritual support, and those who are ready to recognize Earth as a school in which we learn, grow, and serve, showing another way to navigate the challenging transition from the Piscean to the Aquarian Era so they may show another way to others
  • to disseminate the teachings and practices of The Clarion Way, the psychospiritual path of the Institute, through our books and tour continued presence online through this website. The Clarion Way is delineated in four books by Susan Trout – The Soul and Service Trilogy and To Show Another Way: How to Learn, Heal, and Serve at a Time of Crisis on Planet Earth;
  • to help our planet heal and evolve by radiating Light into the world and guiding others in applying new methods to usher in the new reality of a Planet Earth illuminated with Divine Light.
The Clarion Way is the psychospiritual path of the Institute.

The Clarion Way teachings awaken our inner knowing and guide us in applying that knowing in the world through action. They have been published in four books by Susan S. Trout, PhD: To Show Another Way: How to Learn, Heal and Serve at a time of Crisis on Planet Earth and The Soul and Service Trilogy.  The Trilogy consists of three books: Born to Serve: The Evolution of the Soul Through Service with a Foreword by His Holiness the Dalai Lama; The Awakened Leader: Leadership as a Classroom of the Soul; and The Clarion Call: Leadership and Group Life in the Aquarian Era.  Ten Universal Tributes provide a roadmap for attaining self-transformation through service.

We invite you to explore this website with an open heart and an open mind... and see where it leads you. Take the hand of tomorrow for the yesterday is no more.
